INVERTEBRATE PROJECT -
PART I
Date Due ___9/14___
Invertebrates: 1. Crickets (10)
2. Mealworms (10)
3. Land Snails (5)
4. Redworms (10)
5. Isopods (10)
6. Hermit crab (2)
Your lab team will be asked to take care of one of the above groups of invertebrates. In order for you to successfully take care of these organisms you need to know something about them. Research the following information for the invertebrate that you have been assigned. Each team member must take the terrarium home for at least one weekend and make observations to share with the group. The weekend “report” must include observations labeled and in order for each of the categories in Part II. They will be posted on the bulletin board for group members to read.
I. Scientific
name / Common Name(s) 5
pts.
II. Drawing / Picture with anatomy labeled 20

VIII. Quality of terrarium set up 5 pts.
Write a short paper covering each of the sections

needed to care for your invertebrates, except the terrarium and the
invertebrate(s) which you will be provided.
Have the paper and set up terrarium ready for peer evaluation
(based on the criteria above) before homeroom on the due date indicated.
NOTE - Reference articles are available in the lab, but must stay in the lab. They may be used before school or during study halls. You may use other sources as well.
INVERTEBRATE PROJECT - PART II
Make at least 2 detailed observations per week in one section of your lab notebook and include the following categories:
I. Feeding behavior 5
pts.
II. Activity patterns 5
pts.
III. Communication 5
pts.
IV. Responsiveness 5
pts.
V. Competition 5
pts.
Vi. Unique behavior 5
pts.
VII. Possible research topics 5
pts.
Plus Cause of death, if applicable
Jot down notes on various experiments that could be done with your invertebrates.
After caring for your invertebrates for 6 weeks or until their demise (whichever comes first), write a short paper from your daily observation notes covering what you have learned about your invertebrate(s). Be sure to label and include in order each of the above categories.
